Strict offline mode: what does it really cut off?
Triq's strict offline mode cuts off all exchanges with the server. Before you turn it on, a window lists what you lose: online map, online search, etc. Your downloaded maps stay usable. You can turn it off whenever you like.
Some people want a phone that talks to no one. That's what strict offline mode is for.
What it does
Once it's on, the app no longer exchanges anything with the triq-maps.com server. It's not just a lack of network: it's a choice, and a complete one.
A confirmation before turning it on
Triq doesn't let you trigger it by accident. A confirmation window appears and lists, with icons, what you lose: the online map, online search, and whatever depends on them. You confirm only if you're fine with it.
What you keep
- Your downloaded offline maps.
- Search and routing on those maps (details).
- Ads already stored on your phone: they're still displayed. Nothing is downloaded.
Ads and counters
Triq counts ad impressions and clicks, with no advertising ID and no profile. In strict mode, these counters stay on your phone. They're only sent when you turn the mode off, once the network is back.
No price entry
In strict offline mode, Triq never asks you to enter a price, since that would mean sending information to the server. See shared fuel prices.
Who is it for?
For those who want maximum privacy, or to save their mobile data. For the rest of the privacy approach, see no account and privacy.
Going back
Strict mode isn't permanent. You turn it off whenever you like in Settings, under Privacy, and Triq resumes its exchanges with the server: online map, online search, sending the counters.
If you're unsure, try it first on a route you know, with your maps downloaded, to see how your phone behaves.
Triq is coming to Google Play; join the beta from the website.
