Morocco maps by region: the 12-map catalogue

By , publisher of Triq

Since version 0.11.5, Triq replaces the big map packages with a catalogue of 12 regional maps. In the Regions tab, you download only the regions where you drive. You save space and time, and you can add more later.

Before, you had to download big packages. Since version 0.11.5, Triq offers instead a catalogue of 12 regional maps, to download one by one.

Why by region

A phone doesn't always have space to spare. If you mostly drive in your own region, there's no point keeping the whole country. With the catalogue, you take what you need and nothing more.

Where to find it

In the app, the Regions tab lists the available maps. You download the ones you want. Triq warns you above 100 MB when you're not on Wi-Fi, and downloads in 4 parallel ranges to go faster. It's all explained in using Triq with offline maps.

A verified catalogue

The catalogue is signed: the app checks its signature before using it. Since 0.11.5, it recognises two publishing keys, with a 24-hour clock tolerance. It's a technical detail: it lets the app check that the catalogue really comes from Triq. For where the data comes from, see the map sources.

Preparing a trip

Before you leave, download the regions along your route, then check that search and routing work. Searching without a network is described in offline search and routing.

A concrete example

You live in a big city and twice a year you visit your family in another region. You keep your region's map all year, download the other region the week before you leave, and free up space afterwards if needed. The regional catalogue is made for this kind of use.

What happens when you leave the downloaded areas is also covered in the article on offline maps.

Triq is coming to Google Play; join the beta from the website.
