How to use Triq without a network, with offline maps
Triq lets you download maps of Morocco straight to your phone: cities, regions or the whole country. Once downloaded, the map, search and routes work without a network. So you can drive in the mountains, the desert or dead zones without depending on the network.
In Morocco, the network sometimes disappears at the worst moment: an Atlas pass, a road in the South, a tunnel, a medina. With offline maps, your GPS no longer depends on it.
What you download
Triq offers maps to keep on your phone: cities, regions, or the whole country. You choose what you need based on the space available. The regional catalogue is detailed in the 12 regions of the catalogue.
What works without a network
- The map displays normally.
- Place search works on downloaded maps.
- Routes are calculated on the phone. For the details, read offline search and routes.
Download with no nasty surprises
A map can be large. Triq warns you when a download exceeds 100 MB outside Wi-Fi, so you don't drain your data plan without meaning to. The download runs in 4 parallel ranges, so it's faster. The maps come from our own server.
A good habit: download your maps at home, on Wi-Fi, the day before a long trip.
And outside the downloaded area?
If no downloaded map covers the area you're in, Triq uses the online map and routes, as long as you have a network. With no network and no map, there's obviously nothing to display: hence the point of downloading before you leave.
To cut off all exchanges
If you want the phone to stop exchanging anything with the server, there's a dedicated setting: strict offline mode.
Your offline maps stay on your phone, even if you use "Delete my data".
Good to know
A downloaded map takes up space on the phone, like a photo or a video. If you're short on space, keep only the regions you actually travel through, and add the others before a trip. Nothing forces you to take everything: Triq is still a free GPS, with or without downloaded maps, and it switches to the online map when no downloaded map covers the area.
Also remember to check your battery and your car mount: a good offline GPS doesn't replace a charged phone.
Triq is coming to Google Play; join the beta from the website.

What happens if I leave the downloaded area?
Triq switches to the online map and routes as long as you have a network. Without a network, you need to have downloaded the area beforehand.
Offline maps, tolls, community alerts, dashcam. No account.
