Dashcam in Triq: film the road with your phone
Triq's built-in dashcam records the road during guidance, with the rear camera, the front camera or both. It makes one continuous recording, monitors storage space and stops at the end of guidance. Videos stay on your phone and are never sent automatically.
A fender-bender, a doubt about who had right of way: a video beats a thousand explanations. Triq's dashcam turns your phone into an in-car camera, with no other device to buy or plug in.
How it works
During guidance, Triq makes one continuous recording. You start it, and you don't have to think about stopping it: the dashcam stops at the end of guidance, even if you started it manually.
To set it up or start it, use the Dashcam button in the bottom bar.
Which camera?
You choose:
- the rear camera, which films the road;
- the front camera, which films the inside of the car;
- both, if your phone allows it: see Dashcam with two cameras.
Under the hood
Triq records in H.265, falling back to H.264 if the phone can't handle it. It monitors storage space so it doesn't fill up your phone without warning. Clips are named `triq_*.mp4`.
The dashcam keeps filming with the screen off, thanks to a foreground service: that's also what keeps guidance active.
Your videos stay with you
Dashcam videos are kept on your phone. They are never sent automatically: you choose whether to export them or not. Also read Sound and privacy.
When you use "Delete my data", offline maps are kept, and so are dashcam videos, unless you tick the box provided to erase them.
Mount your phone properly
- fix it securely on a mount, not lying on the dashboard;
- check that the lens is clean and unobstructed;
- plug it into a socket in the car: filming takes power;
- leave free space on the phone.
Heat
In the sun, a phone heats up. In two-camera mode, Triq automatically switches back to the rear camera only if the phone gets too hot.
Privacy
Before sharing a video, think about the people and number plates visible in it.
Finally, think about upkeep: from time to time, check how many videos you've kept, export the ones that matter and delete the rest, to keep space free on the phone.
